
Madonna’s first concert in Moscow has found a new place after security concerns threatened to cancel the show.
The organizers and city officials agreed on Monday to move Madonna’s long-awaited concert in the Russian capital from the original venue to the much larger Luzhniki Stadium, home of the Spartak Moscow soccer team.
This agreement came about after more than a week of negotiations since city officials began objecting to the original site, on the south bank of the Moscow River framed by the tower of Moscow State University. Acoording to Anton Atrashkin, press secretary for the Russian leg of Madonna’s Confessions tour.
“Luzhniki is more convenient from the point of view of security — we are sure that this is very good news for all Madonna fans in Russia,” The Stadium holds around 80,000 people, or double the number of tickets that have been sold so far.
The Russian Orthodox Church has asked people to boycott her concert because of her use of a mock crucifixion scene in her tour concerts.
